My History:
I grew up in the 80s in Flint Michigan with a lot of influences. Early on, I raided my dad’s record collection, which included some David Bowie, T Rex, Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream among others (my sense of humor can partly be attributed to his collection of George Carlin records.)

I had my first taste of DJing when I was about 9 or 10 and would help my uncle “Steve Keen Music Machine” DJ at various events (mostly weddings.) Lots of exposure to his collection of disco, funk, motown and dance music laid the foundation for the explosion of the new wave scene in my teen years.

Duran Duran were my first loves; Human League, Howard Jones, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Psychedelic Furs, Dead or Alive, Gary Numan, and still some Bowie and Floyd all found a home in my teenage record collection. I attended alternative dance nights where I got exposure to more underground bands such as Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Soft Cell, Nitzer Ebb, Skinny Puppy, etc.

Later, I also discovered a passion for The Beatles, especially the later psychedelic and experimental albums that came after Rubber Soul… from there I always kept an open mind.. I have to credit my good friend DJ Derfel for showing me lots of music I never heard growing up and introducing me to some of the sounds that never made it to my Flint Michigan record stores… the internet has opened such a doorway for musical exposure.. and the result of all these influences is the music I now choose to play.

that’s a pretty broad question. just do some research and get the equipment you need to get, study your genres and practice a lot. I still don’t consider myself a real DJ *winks*
